NAQP - NC4KW (N1LN)Good effort, guys.

I got home and out to the shack about 8:30 and thought I'd give out a few Q's. Took a quick listen on 20 and it was so dead I thought something was wrong with my radio.

40 was out because a big tree partially downed by the windstorm a couple weeks ago had to be taken out and all the wires were in the vicinity so everything was on the ground. Ditto the 160 inverted V.

So went to 80 and heard a lot of activity. No one answered. SWR off the chart on the Orion and reading "SWR High". Tuner and MFJ box all read the same. Too dark to investigate. Checked the dipole/vee today and see a branch had fallen across it and broken the safety link at the top and the whole antenna was lying on the ground. It's up again now, but my statistics are:

0 0 0

The positive side was that for receiving I could hear everyone very clearly with no noise. I've come up with a new name for the antenna:

Dipole On Ground, or DOG!

  Comments:

Our assumption going into this weeks NAQP was that we would turn in a higher

score than we did for CW. NOT TO BE. Not only did we have a worse time on

15mtrs, we could never get anything going on 20. Not sure if it was

conditions, activity or just us, but 20 mtrs was painful. It will be

interesting to read how other stations in our general area did on 20 mtrs.

Life got better as we gave up on 20 and moved full time to 40, 80 and 160. Note

the word better and not BEST. The best rates we had were on 80 and 160.

Bring on the sun spots so we can get all the bands back.

Thanks for all for the Qs and the repeats.

  73,

  Bruce - N1LN

  (aka: NC4KW - Pat)
