I regret that I will not be able to make Thursday's meeting due to a
business trip, but I leave you in the capable hands of KA1ARB who will
lead a discussion/Pep Rally on Sweepstakes. Since this is the last
meeting before CW Sweepstakes, we want to look back at our participation
last year and try to reach out and come up with a few more points in
order to bring the gavel back East. We were close, but basically were
beaten by the NCCC by simple participation. If you look at the
statistics, PVRC had more points/station than the NCCC. The NCCC won by
putting a few more BICs (Butts in the Chairs) over both modes.

Getting a little closer to home, I was very proud to see that little
'ole PVRCNC-East (that's us folks) was the second largest contributing
chapter to the overall PVRC score. What's more, our average score per
station beat the largest group (PVRC Central) by over 17,000 points!
It's all about getting everyone that can possibly get on and utilizing
the best mode for maximizing your score. I would urge you to get on no
matter how many hours you can put in. It WILL make a difference. I also
encourage you to:

- Use assisted mode - more QSOs per hour, especially if you are
time limited

- Use High power rather than low power or QRP.

- Operate as 2 or more single op stations rather than going
multiop

- Operate part time from more than one station

- If you are not able to get on, make your station available to
other members

There is a PVRC SS Powerpoint presentation that details last year's
effort and has some interesting facts and figures. I will make it
available, however the reflector does not allow it to be sent as an
attachment. In addition, there are some SS articles that will be
featured in this months' newsletter.

I urge everyone to think about ideas large and small that can be used to
motivate and gain an advantage in our individual and chapter scores.
Then let's share these ideas with the group here on the reflector and at
the next two chapter meetings. It is clear that with a little extra
push, this year we can win the gavel.

73,

Will AA4NC / W4MR
