Yes Jim - that was us.

I was part of the OCRA - Orange County Radio Amateurs - FD team (W4EZ)
Yes, we were 8A-Battery.

Here are a few data points -

Ranking for stations running QRP: 5th out of 252

Ranking for stations in the North Carolina Section: 2nd out of 73

Wow, Mike, that's quite an achievment.

Might mention that a few other yokels, including PVRCNC ops K4QPL and AA4FU 
pushed a group called CARS K4M to 19th out of 441 in the highly competitive 
2A class with a score of 8,306, just some 498 points less than the 3 
transmitters in the group you mentioned. As far as qso's are concerned, the 
2A CARS group actually had more qso's with 2,364 vs. 2,319 for 3A.

But of course we wouldn't brag since this is not a contest at 
all......................A darn good thing, too. How can the #2 FD station 
in NC operate 8, count 'em, 8 radios with 36 participants and a grand total 
of 1,067 qso's and have a total of 10,530 points??  8 QRP radios on 
batteries? Bruce--was this your crowd??
