[PVRCNC] What ham radio has become

No names mentioned, but I have known some number who seem just plain
"connector challenged" regardless of all the other stuff that they really know
quite well.
The REAL solution for such folks is to make all their cables out of teflon
coax that cannot be melted by the soldering iron. None of this "deft touch"
stuff to get just enough solder and heat on it to wick well without melting
the jacket or dielectric.
I keep my do-it-yersself credentials alive by replacing vacuum relays with
burned contacts (and other calamities) in contest amplifiers. I haven't yet
figured out how to rebuild an 8874 with a smoked grid. Maybe next year if I
see a few more of these build it yourself vacuum tube videos and can catch
on...
73, Guy.

He should buy. Probably doesn't know which end of the soldering iron to hold
or where to put it.
Worst part is I had thought connecting antennas and rig control were the
last bastions of homebrewing and they might survive. This makes me even more
determined that I will not buy a [you insert brand name] all in one
automatic keyer-rtty-microphone-computer-two radio-band decoder-antenna
switching voice recording morse reading control unit for my shack!
Maybe there are still a few dinosaurs out here.
73,
Jim, K4QPL
