Soapbox: Part time as promised- about 5.5 hours. What a difference a week
makes. High noise levels on the low bands wore out my wrist jockeying
beverages and guessing where people were from their call signs. A WB2 in Ms
proved the futility of that! Trying to run on 80 with all that wasn't much
fun, particularly with ears that are tuned to a 700 hz. continuous wave
sound! S&P'd a lot and chased a few mults on 160. Quit early without
maximizing the effort. Nice to work the locals on at least one band.

On the positive side, 20M was pretty good. Heard J3C booming in off the back
and took a few minutes to rotate and work him. Later in the afternoon the
snow and ice Bruce complained about apparently put my tribander SWR at
exactly 1.0:1 at 14.325 and I had a nice run there with good reports until
20M finally died.

Power supply took a short time out during a run after a series of automatic
cq's on 80M. I guess I learned that "Amateur Service" in "ICAS" ratings
doesn't mean that for contest mode! Was probably a good warning as the
heatsink on the Orion was also getting pretty warm when that happened. An
extra few amps on the PS and the FSK recommended Ten-tec fan might be a good
investment.

Lot of fun and expect a whole new ballgame for NAQP in August. Sunspots??

73,

Jim, K4QPL
