"taking up 2 frequencies on phone on both of the
active bands at that time is just plain selfish." per N8II

WARNING: Another individual opinion to follow. No flaming invited but
differing views if offered in a respectful format are welcomed.

I could not agree more. I'm all for trying to "up" your score but at what
cost? Maybe a tough question...maybe not. I suppose some would say "at
whatever cost the heck with you (any other contester)" and some would say something
like "I do want to maximize my score but if other ops decide to skip the
contest because there is no room for them to operate then it's not worth the cost."
I'm in the second school of thought. There is only a limited amount of
spectrum for those to "run" on....for example only...suppose that 20m can hold 100
NA "run" stations and 40m can hold 100 NA "run" stations....are we better to
have 100 SO2R/Dueling CQ guys on those bands (100 total) or to have 200
stations (100 on 20m and 100 on 40m) going at it and having fun? I vote for the 200
stations. Why? Simple...if you can't get in and play the game many will
find a new game. If you believe that's just too bad and let them go..then you
are in effect assisting in the demise of ham radio/contesting.

It's about having fun (and being competitive of course) and I can tell you
from personal experience that having stations magically "reappear" after several
minutes on a frequency I have found silent and began "running" on a yell
"this is my frequency qsy" or just fire up and take off again is a problem. It
does happen. I am a basic one radio operator and have no interest in SO2R or a
dueling CQ setup so I know my view is slanted that way. But thinking beyond
me and my personal beliefs, weI do need to think of the cost of adding a few
percent to a score and decide if it's really worth it. And I don't mean worth
it to a single person or a small group of top tier contesters but to the long
term benefit of ham radio. Does it encourage participation? Does it help me
personally but screw over multiple other contesters?

We all want to have fun competing. But if we get to the point where just a
few are taking up all the available spectrum with their multiple Dueling CQs
(why stop at 2 bands...figure out some new technology and take on 3 or 4!) there
will be less and less room for others....like me and the other regular
contesters who make this all work in the first place.

73....GL contesting and let's have fun!
