October is when the 2007-08 Contest season gets cranked up into high gear. A
warmup for SS this weekend is the ever popular CQP (California QSO Party).
Nice wallpaper and good fun. Then it's CQWW and on to Sweepstakes!

Let's everyone get together this Thursday nite at Manchester's to plan for
contesting, give tips for contesting and make predictions for the season.

As always we'll have the one and only original W0UCE paper contest--only
this time the contestmeister will regrettably be yours truly, and DQ'd from
a shot at winning what I understand is a pretty nifty prize. The theme is
some more memory lane questions. Jack will miss the meeting as he is
displaying his other talents as a barbecue chef cooking up a storm for the
Shriner's fund raiser on Friday. Plan on a takeaway for your Friday lunch to
support the Shriner's Childrens Hospitals. I mislaid the email with details.
Maybe Jack will post for pvrcnc again if he can find his computer after
moving to his new QTH.

After we've talked out contesting, have another drink and hang around for an
episode of "Our State" on the meeting room TV.

The Southern Appalachian Radio Museum in Asheville, NC will be featured
on UNC public television's "Our State" program on Thursday, October 4
at 8:00pm. You'll see Tommy Queen, K4BNP, demonstrate morse code on an
old "clicker". Dave Anderson, K4SV, will talk about DX and ham radio
and you'll get a short video tour of the museum!

If you're interested in visiting, the Southern Appalacian Radio Museum
is located on the campus of Asheville-Buncombe Technical Community
College. It is open Friday's from 1-3pm, but tours can be arranged at
other times. For more information, go to www.saradiomuseum.org.

Look forward to seeing everyone at Manchester's. Full details at

Jim, K4QPL
