[PVRCNC] PVRCNC-East Early meeting and election notice

As promised this time last year, I agreed to one, and only one, more year as
your chairman. I can't guarantee all promises are kept, but this is one I
will keep as I firmly believe in new leaders with new ideas. I sincerely
appreciate the tremendous support I have had during the past two years. We
have continued to make an impact on PVRC scores, we've had a lot of fun and
we have a lot of new and active members. We have become better contesters
through the shared experiences and knowledge of all. I'm sure most of this
would have happened anyway, but you've made it a most enjoyable experience
for me. TU to all.

As an extremely loose group with no local bylaws, regulations or dues,
Roberts Rules of Order are about as welcome as Murphy here. Too many of us
have experienced clubs where factions and politics were de rigeur. We can
have elections, nominating committees, and whatever other political stuff
you want.

Or, we can elect a chairman and others by the tested and true tradition of
PVRCNC-East. (Blow that whistle, guys and gals, the "railroad" is coming!)

I have it on good authority that one of our most experienced and personable
world class contesters, after a couple years of minimal activity due to some
personal situations, is getting back into full bore contesting and club
activity. He has also expressed willingness to lead PVRCNC-East for a
one-year term with a "platform" of developing a strong leadership team to
insure ongoing continuity of this great club and chapter.

I am referring to none other than Will Roberts, AA4NC and frequent operator
of W4MR. Some of the newer members may not have heard as much from Will,
but go back a few years and look at his achievements in all the major
contests, contest DXpeditions, etc. More recently he hosted one of the
W1AW/4 locations in IARU. You name it, Will's done it. He is equally at home
on cw and phone and recognizes that each member's particular interest and
aptitude is welcome in our great hobby. He's a musician and also an
experienced pilot. Story is that while communicating on the aircraft band
another ham pilot recognized Will's "tail number" and called on the radio,
"Is that AA4NC?" To which Will, ever the contester, replied in a flash, "59
NC"!

Will is also totally non-political and says if anyone else wants the job, he
will gladly step aside. Likewise, I would not want welcoming Will's
willingness to serve the club to be construed as opposing anyone else who is
interested.

So, at our meeting next Thursday (Dec. 6) part of our business will be to
elect a chairman for the coming year. If anyone wants to throw their hat in
the ring, just let us know. If you can't attend this month and you would
like to put in a nomination or vote by proxy, you can send it to either
W4KAZ, chapter secretary, or myself.

As Garrison Keillor might say, "It's been a busy contesting month at Lake
Woebegone". I'm sure we all look forward to seeing each other and hearing
all about your successes as well as your experiences proving Robbie Burns
immortal words about the "best laid plans of mice and men....."

Last, but not least, having taken time off for a change in QTH, Jack, W0UCE,
will be back in top form with the paper contest. I hear on the grapevine
that while moving, Jack came across more goodies from his junque box and
there will be several more prizes for "win or place". So if your historical
and esoteric radio knowledge is not on a par with folks like K4CIA, come to
the December meeting and improve your odds. (If the prizes are all wrapped
like the ones for past winners, we may be at Manchester's all night HI!)

73 and see you next Thursday,

Jim, K4QPL, soon to be "ex-chairman"
