Soapbox : This was not quite the results I was looking for. 80
played well as usual and 40 was my weak link, also as usual. 20 was unusual.
Couldn't figure out why I was not able to run and was getting too many fill
requests. Just wrote it off as conditions Saturday, but when even the QRP
guys were eating my lunch Sunday I stopped to try and figure it out. SWR
readings at the radio were high and erratic despite the MFJ box saying
everything was OK. Taking the ICE filter out of the run radio helped, but
still getting erratic SWR readings. Eventually bypassed the bandpass filter,
the outboard tuner, and the Six-pak to have a direct shot to the beam from
the radio. Made a big difference, but wasted a lot of time. With no antenna
switching or band filters SO2R was impossible just about the time I would
have liked to use it. Will have to check out cables and relays to figure
out. Looks like something caused the high swr which then took out the 20M
section of the filter. The Six pak is a prime suspect.
Never could make up time on the high bands and 20 got so crowded the big
guys were constantly kicking sand in my face. Decided to go "casual" and
got some extra sleep to at least help the work week!
Wait until next time!
73,
Jim, K4QPL
