FWIW, I agree that any changes other than a club circle of *whatever*
diameter needs careful consideration. Gerrymandering of any flavor brings
into play a large number of compounded, 2nd- and 3rd-order effects that are
not necessarily favorable.

For the same reasons, any change to the type of boundary used vs. "the
circles" needs to be carefully done so that the area can be bent but not
broken.
Grid squares would be easy to administer, but it's still a bit granular
and they are bigger towards the equator.
