[PVRCNC] 175 Mile Radius

Marty and all in NC,

I think it's very important for us in NC to realize that the basic cause of
this problem is "growing pains" in our club and in the metro areas. PVRCNC
as a "home" for contesters has attracted new members, a good example being
Brad, AL4T. With Manchester's being our Eastern chapter focal point for
meetings, we didn't realize that being down at Ft. Bragg put him well
outside the 175 mile radius. We could throw stones at almost any of us or
PVRC "management" for not picking up on this, but the fact is that without a
system to automatically identify members and their positions, it was easy
for it to fall through the cracks. I don't blame anyone and certainly not
the members.

The question now is how do we reach a resolution. The center of the circle
is not something imposed on us. It is something that the club officers and
trustees establish. There will be a lot of headscratching to figure out
where the center should be or even if it should move at all. Will they take
into account historical membership? Sure. Contributions to club scores?
Absolutely. And other factors as well. The important thing is that it will
be accurate and in future everyone both within and outside the club can know
so that when we submit a score and win, it will be with knowledge that we
win fair and square.

I had a call last night from Ken, K4ZW, PVRC VP who came down to our joint
meeting last month. I assured Ken, as well as Howie, Guy and others, that we
will give time to see how this tough issue can be resolved for the benefit
of the club and minimum effect on PVRC-NC, both East and West.

Stay tuned and I'm sure we'll hear more in the near future.

73,

Jim, K4QPL
