Dear Ms. Avila,
As both an attorney and an Extra Class licensed radio amateur, I urge you to
support H1340 which requires adequate provisions for amateur radio antenna
systems.
Amateurs have a long history of frequently being the only reliable method of
communication in times of disasters or national emergencies. Cell phones and
public service systems can be overloaded and damaged. Power outages can
affect availability for critical messages. Hurricane Katrina is but one
example of a situation when, for example, the only communications between a
hospital and outside help came through a link provided by amateur radio.
Who knows where the next disaster may strike? Amateur radio is more than a
hobby, it is a national resource. Reasonable accommodation for radio
antennas is a requirement to maintain this resource.
If you need further information on this matter, do not hesitate to contact
me.
Best regards.
James F. Jordan (Amateur Radio FCC callsign: K4QPL)
