[PVRCNC] December meeting and election

Time flies when you're having fun, and it's been more than a year since
Jeff, Jack and I took office for PVRCNC-East. It's been a great experience
and we have all enjoyed our experiences herding cats, producing the PVRC
chronicles and thinking up paper contests and programs for our meetings.

But we have discussed this and believe that the fun and responsibility
should be shared and that fresh faces and ideas should be the norm for your
club. We have also thought a bit about maintaining continuity and transition
while this is being done. Many organizations have a tradition that at each
election a deputy is elected for each post who is the automatic nominee to
move up the following year. In other words, an elected vice-chairman for one
year is the chairmain-elect and takes office the following year. We believe
this would be a good arrangement for our club.

In addition, both Jeff and Jack have indicated that they would like to step
down after this year. Jack feels he needs a break and Jeff is overloaded
with commitments with work and family and would like to hand over to someone
else. I don't have any good excuses ;-) not to continue for another year
(only) if desired, but I do want to get new people involved and keep the
enthusiasm building.

I realize this is very short notice, but we would like to have elections at
the next meeting if at all possible. If you will be at the December meeting
nominations will of course be accepted from the floor. If you can't attend,
or if you would like to make an advance nomination, please send an email to
Jeff.

The offices we need to fill for next year are:

Chairman
Vice-Chairman/Chairman Elect
Secretary
Program Chairman
Deputy Program Chairman/Program Chairman Elect

It would also be good in making a nomination to know if the nominee is
willing to serve if elected. If you have talked to the nominee, please let
Jeff know. If you haven't, but wish to make a nomination anyway, let Jeff
know that as well so he can try to determine if the person is willing to ser
ve. Yes, I know it's a longstanding tradition to railroad members who aren't
there to say no, but we do want to keep the activity level high and if
someone has personal or work commitments that affect their wilingness to get
involved, it's important that is known.

Please make every effort to attend the next meeting. Remember the old
saying, "If you don't vote, don't complain!"

73,

Jim, K4QPL
