Welcome to the area!  My suggestion is to stay in
touch with Jim, 'QPL, he's your man on the legal
stuff.

As far as relocation, you could not be working on a
better side of the Raleigh area.  (In my humble
opinion, of course!)  The reason I say that is because
we finely have good access to Raleigh and beyond from
the east (it wasn't always so) with the new 64 bypass
extension finely completed last year.

I think you will find that as you go out away from
Raleigh to the east, property will be less expensive. 
How far east you will need to be for your economic
comfort level will depend on you, of course (I had to
get to Rocky Mount before I could afford a place, HI!)
 With your wife being on the east side, that might
work out, too.

East is also more rural (read, "backward") so
covenants are less common, I think.  But mine is only
one opinion, and I live east of Raleigh, so take it
for what it is worth!
