Comments: My son-in-law, Jim, W4TMO (formerly WA2JFK), and I had a great time
operating the contest together, even with my humble "antenna farm". We did
mostly
S&P, alternating shifts and getting plenty of sleep nights. Our initial goal
was 500 Q's
and later changed to 750k points; we met both and are proud of our
performances.
Maybe I'm not cut out for this SSB stuff because I had an awful time hearing
through
the QRM. Plus, I seemed to attract an awful lot of stations that were barely
above the
noise level (conditions? QRP ops?). The QSB on the high bands was terrible at
my
station...you'd get a call from a marginal station and he'd fade completely
away as he
was giving his report...then you'd try several times and eventually he'd come
back up!
No 200/hr rates at THIS station!!!
Also used Telnet spotting throughout the contest, something I RARELY do
because
(as a single op) I enjoy the surprises of working new ones. With N1MM Logger,
it was
absolutely great in the multi environment, especially with splits!
Glad to contribute this modest score to "the cause".
73, Bert
