Comments:
Wow! It felt good to finally find time to operate a contest again. All of
those e-mails on the PVRC reflector last month spurred me on to make a special
effort to operate the SS Phone. Regrettably, my last contest effort was the
2004 ARRL 10 M. Corroded element U-bolts prevented me from getting the C3SS up
on the AB-1342 mast for 20-10M in time before the contest started. (Why does
an antenna that cost this much have such crappy hardware? And, mine is stored
under the deck hanging from hooks, off the ground, for most of the year.) I
would usually have done this check and assembly the weekend before the
contest; however, last weekend the house was being painted. I had 4-6 guys with
ladders everywhere and did not want to get in their way. Anyhow, from some of the
comments I heard on 40M, 10 & 15 were dead and 20 was not very good. I guess
that explains why I was having so much trouble working 20 with the 40M
inverted-V. Oh well, other excuses - I spent too much time looking for new mults
and avoiding giving points to SMC members (seems every ham in IL/IN and was on!).
