PVRCNC-EAST

PVRCNC-EAST’s regularly scheduled gathering took place on Thursday, June 2.
Those in attendance and willing to identify themselves were: N4CW,  Bert;
K4CIA, Bill; W4KAZ, Keith; NT4Q, Jerry; NX9T, Jeff; K4NYS, Chuck; W0UCE,  Jack;
K4QPL, Jim; NT4D, Jay; K4HA, Bob; and KA1ARB, Rob.

Following up on a scheme which was hatched by a few members enroute to the
meeting, nominations for chapter chairman were quickly opened, closed, and
voted upon. Once the dust settled, K4QPL was congratulated as being the new
chairman for our chapter. Needing someone to record this moment for prosperity,
NX9T was subsequently installed as chapter secretary in much the same manner
as Jim was ushered into his high office. Jim and Jeff are both honored to
be able to serve the chapter in their respective roles and are extremely
appreciative of those who have previously served and provided a clear path for to
follow. After disposing of business, individual reports followed.

N4CW: Bert operated the low power Sprint. He’s very familiar with the
Sprint but not so much with operating low power. A few hours were also logged
during WPX. Bert will soon be making his annual pilgrimage to Maine and is
looking forward to operating FD with some old buddies. Listen for N4CW/1. Have
a great summer Bert...we’ll see you in the fall.

K4CIA: Bill shared that work continues on his 160m shunt-fed tower project.
He recently bagged 8 new DXCC entities on 6m. Bill enjoyed his recent trip
to Dayton.

W4KAZ: Keith was on some for WPX and made close to 150 Q’s. He is working
on various bandpass filters and is excited about several station improvements
that are in the works.

NT4Q: Jerry’s big news is his new call sign! The ham, formerly known as
KI4CCJ, is now cruising the bands incognito. He continues to accumulate tower
sections and accessories in the endless pursuit of the “big signal.” No
doubt we will be hearing that call sign a lot this fall.

NX9T: Jeff has been busy with about everything but ham radio. He’s quite
proud of his two boys who are gracing the 10m contest article in the lead photo
position. He hopes to get on for a couple of the summer contests but will
surely be at it this fall. His current project is trying to get the HF mobile
antenna working again.

W0UCE: Jack has been active on HF traffic nets, played some in the WPX, and
has lately been enjoying some rag chews. He observed that 160m is slowing
down but he’s trying to squeeze out any QSO where he can.

K4NYS: Chuck has been traveling a lot due to work. The good news is he has
his mobile HF system operational. The bad news is he has found that just a
few watts on 40m kills his truck engine. Primary project these days involves
a 6m/2m homebrew KW amplifier.

K4QPL: Jim described the fun he had operating in the low power Sprint but
was somewhat dismayed that he missed WPX. He’s excited about spending FD
assisting Nate, N4YDU, at a local HS where Nate teaches and has established a
radio club. He also has been assisting locals doing tower prep work with his
Kubota.

NT4D: Jay has been busy with family issues. He advised that one of his
daughters just graduated from high school and he just set up another in Colorado
where she will be working for the summer.

K4HA: Bob has been busy building a new communication trailer with the NC
Highway Patrol. The trailer will be put to use at the U.S. Open next week. Bob
spent WPX at the Grand Ole Opry. He will be traveling to NY to spend FD with
his “2-land connections.” Bob complained about how his 160m inverted L
keeps getting whacked by mysteriously falling tree limbs. After a few comments
from Jack, suspicion arose that W0UCE may be “managing” any competition on
160m by periodically shooting at Bob’s trees (generally just prior to
contests).

KA1ARB: Rob was back to check in with the group after a several month
absence. While he has not been on HF much lately, he was elated to learn recently
that he and cohort WB1ADR took the #1 spot as a multiop in New Hampshire last
year for the SSB SS. Congrats Rob!

Following the round table reports, it was decided that there would not be
any regular meetings at the GC during July or August. K4QPL will pursue
suggestions that have been previously made concerning different locations (North
Raleigh) and possibly use the summer months as an opportunity to explore other
eateries. QRX for more details.

Suggestions for meeting locations, special discussion topics, etc...are
always welcome.

73,
Jeff NX9T
