“”..I can see for miles and miles and miles and miles….””

Yep. I have available a sizeable quantity of Commscope F1160BV coaxial
cable, a 75 ohm RG-11 equivalent.

How much? LOTS.

It was rescued from a trip to the scrap yard. The cable was
new-in-the-box. Its been kept in a climate controlled warehouse, safe
from excess moisture. Never even been driven by grandma on Sunday,
certainly never driven by a California kilowatt. I had to take it out
of the boxes because I don’t have a forklift at the house. Hell, I’ve
still got two boxes in the back of the truck as I type.

(See? I SAID I have LOTS—I started out with over five miles of cable!)

I have left about 20 spools of 1000 feet each, and that’s clearly Too
Many Spools. Help!

It was obtained from a local supplier’s vast warehouse (with
permission!!) where the manager was scrapping it because its been
occupying pallet space for nearly a decade. He is making room for his
current product lines. (Should’a seen the stuff he was tossing that the
scrapper was paying him for.)

In short, it’s a 75 ohm CATV dual shielded RG-11 equivalent,"drop
cable", with a stiff copper clad steel center conductor(not really
suitable for coiled coax chokes, I’d say). No messenger line. Foam
dielectric, shield is aluminum foil tape with a 60% aluminum braid.
PVC jacket.
Per Commscope, its specified nominal velocity factor is 85%.
Attenuation, also per Commscope data for F1160BV:
5Mc------- > 0.38db/100ft
55Mc------ > 0.96db/100ft
187Mc---- > 1.75db/100ft
450Mc---- > 2.75db/100ft

The cable specifications can be seen for yourselves in the Commscope
catalog at:
http://www.commscope.com/docs/dbb_drop_1003.pdf see page 175.

Now, I could probably just sell it at a hamfest. But I decided instead
to offer it FREE to PVRC NC members for their personal use (i.e., I can
always sell them myself if it comes to that).

I’m not in a tremendous hurry to get rid of it, but it does make a
sizeable stack in my itty-bitty storage shed. The wife rolled her eyes
accordingly.

You pick up. Delivery charges are negotiable, but likely to be
painfully high. Hey, if you guys out west in Winston-Salem want some,
maybe you can get together and make a single road trip. You guys are
eligible too.

Possible uses are many. Quarter wave match sections. Or maybe use it
with 1/12th wave series match sections for single band antennas runs.
Or use it with no matching section at all. Got a long run to your
beverage or phased vertical project? Here’s a great el-cheapo solution.

Hey, you can always use it for your TV.

Anybody interested can e-mail direct to kazeringue via aol.com or to
W4KAZ via ARRL.net. No need to post to the whole list. I will collect
responses and hold for a short time. Anything left in the spring goes
to the hamfests or the dumpster.

THE CATCH:
Given the possibility that I may receive more requests than I have
spools, here’s how your chances might improve.

1)	I know we have at least one guy in the east on a full paid luxury
vacation by Uncle Sugar. If there’s any body else who is active duty,
and sees this post within the next several days, they get first dibbs.
Voluntary civilian exile to a hellhole like Maine does not count for
this purpose.
2)	Anybody who has an active project that can benefit from this stuff
immediately is next. Make a case for how you can use it. Likewise,
make a case for more than a single spool. Multi op host stations get
preference within this group.
3)	I can also be bribed with underutilized gear and vague promises for
future favors. I can’t really think of anything I want that might
actually be offered, but if you have something you want to get rid
of—try me.
4)	More or less chronological order after the first two days. Maybe
I’ll sort by the number of contests you have entered or your 5M totals,
if there are too many requests.
5)	I am the final arbiter. Hand-wringing, whining, and pouting over
decisions made by the arbiter will be ridiculed publicly.

After a few of days of collecting responses, I’ll sort through and try
to arrange pick-ups. Also , if anybody wants just a half spool, say so,
and I’ll try to pair you up with somebody else you can work with. But
I’m not planning on doling it out by the millimeter, that’s up to you.

Yeah, its CATV coax, but I just couldn’t stand to see it in a scrapper’s
dumpster.

Phone number and address on request, but I’m in the phonebook and the
QRZ address is good.
