[PVRCNC] Ice and Wind

Hi All!

Looks like we have a very nasty combination forecast
for tomorrow. Here it's nearly 24 hours of freezing rain and
winds 15-20 MPH from the Northeast. This is a deadly
combination for antennas and I speak from experience. If
you notice ice beginning to accumulate, I suggest you turn
your antennas with tips into the wind...i.e. SE or NW if
the wind is out of the NE. If you don't, ice will accumulate
on the elements, and the wind will likely set up oscillations
once some significant icing accumulates. The next stage
is vibrations and resonances which will break the elements.
Most booms are stronger and trussed so they can stand
the ice buildup better than elements which are smaller and
free to flop in the wind.

Hope this misses us but it doesn't look good at the
moment!
