Minutes of the Charter Meeting for the PVRC/NC-WEST group
Date: Monday, December 8, 2003
Place: O'Charly's Restaurant, Winston-Salem, NC
Time: 7:30PM

Present: Henry W2DZO, Don WS4NC, Robert KG4NEP, Raja KB6MTH, Melissa
KD4VED, Chris KG4CZU, John N0KTY, Alex KI4DDD, Dan KG4ECI, Tom N4IOZ,
Raymond WX1NCC, Van KC4WSK, Woody KF4PLQ.

After introductions by all present, the meeting was called to
order by
W2DZO, who promptly called for nominations for a Chairman and Secretary.
After limited discussion, it was decided to tap W2DZO as Chairman and
Robert Whitaker KG4NEP as Secretary. A regular meeting time and place
was discussed, and all approved the 4th Monday of the Month as our
official meeting time. This will be effective in January of 2004.
However, there was some talk of getting together on December 22. Members
were to check their datebooks and respond via email to W2DZO.
Cobalts Eats and Drinks has been tapped as the restaurant of
choice for
our monthly PVRC meetings. Cobalts is located on Deacon Blvd across from
the Joel Coliseum in Winston-Salem.
This being their 2nd PVRC meeting, John Kippe N0KTY and Dan
O'Leary
KG4ECI were made full members of PVRC. Their names and calls will be
sent to the PVRC/NC chair and on to PVRC. It was suggested that all
members subscribe to the PVRC and PVRC/NC reflectors for the latest
news.
W2DZO talked about a get together sometime this spring with the
PVRC/NC
East group. He and Guy K2AV will work on logisitics- probably a meeting
in Burlington to accommodate both groups.
Discussion about a website for the group ensued, with a
recommendation
that we forward our information as a possible sub-directory on the
PVRC/NC site- IOW, no need for 2 separate sites, as we still are one
group- that being PVRC/NC.
With the 10 meter contest approaching this weekend, several
members
discussed their plans-
W4WS- KG4NEP will anchor a multi op at our contest station. All invited.
W2DZO- Henry will operate SO/LP/CW at home while he's grounded (the
wife's got plans both nights so he'll be the babysitter.) He'll also
work at the multi-op with Robert.
N0KTY- John will run SO/LP/SSB in between his work schedule.
KG4ECI- Dan will run SO/QRP/SSB from his place and a single dipole- This
will be Dan's first solo attempt-
WB4MSG- Gene mentioned thru email that he and Tim AG4RZ will try to get
some time in from his place.
KB6MTH- Raja will try some 10 meters this weekend from a copper pipe
antenna. (his big yagi is still being built in the back yard- we'll get
that up soon...)
KG4CZU- Chris will not operate the 10 Meter contest because he now has a
girlfriend, and they are traveling this weekend. But we all met her last
night, and she assured us that he won't fall off the face of the earth.
She's a great girl, A Salem College student from Florida. Yep, Chris is
going down there for the holidays...

We welcomed several new attendees- Melissa KD4VED (who worked my first
CQWW with me in 1991), Alex Fink KI4DDD, a new licensee (17 years old)
who is interested in contesting (new blood!), Raymond WX1NCC, one of the
technical directors for the Forsyth Amateur Radio Club who might run a
SO in my shack on the other antenna this weekend- (his first one as
well), and Tom N4IOZ who has done lots of contests before and is our
packet cluster guy- also the new 2004 FARC President.
Meeting adjourned at 9:45 as the barmaid began to yawn, signaling us
that it was time to go.

Respectfully submitted,
Robert Whitaker, KG4NEP
Secretary, PVRC/NC West
