Ramblings: Interspersed a wedding (N4TL's youngest daughter), reception,
and get-together Saturday with contesting. Had to mollify the XYL (of course)
and take care of "chores", e.g. shopping for shrubbery, groceries, lunch,
etc...
But in the contest: S-9 line noise all weekend -- ever do a phone contest
using the "noise blanker"? Yes, it's somewhat effective, but nevertheless
tiring.
Used the "big" amp all weekend, and it didn't blow up. Worked great -- I guess
repairs were effective and justified. I did 99% of the contest in S&P mode --
no
packet or telnet spotting of any sort. It's such fun to run across "rare" DX
that
way, then slug it out with the "big guns"!!! I didn't do too badly with just
a
tribander at 100 feet, working the likes of 5R, 5U, 9S (9Q), 9M2, JD/o, SU,
V5,
YI, and ZK1 (North and South). I did miss a 3A and an S9 because they were
S&P'ing. And, on three bands (total), I worked all zones but one, 26!!!
Imagine,
DXCC-plus on 10; portends a potential CW weekend! I couldn't stomach working
160, 80, and 40 -- no fun, all work!!!

Interesting anecdote: stopped by NX9T's frequency Saturday night to chat
about the contest and we were interrupted by PJ7UQ, Mort, who was listening
to us and wanted to know if we needed PJ7...Jeff didn't, but I did, and we
both
exchanged reports with Mort. How 'bout that???!!!

It was lots of fun, no stress (other'n the line noise), and a pretty decent
score
to contribute to the club.
