I have not posted to the reflector in a long while so I hope this works.
As a newcomer to this chapter let me say that after being a member of many
clubs over the years (46 years, to be precise) I have attended meetings in many
different types of locations. From schools to banks to lodges to restaurants
there are lots of choices out there. Guy's list is excellent and those items
need to be kept in mind if we proceed.
When I joined the NCCC we met in a meeting room in a bank. I think one of the
members worked for the bank and had free access. After the meeting we retired
to a nearby pizza joint for the BS/technical/brag/war story discussions. The
Southern California DX Club met for many years at Clifton's Cafeteria in
downtown Los Angeles - as unlikely a locacation as you can imagine but the
attendance was consistently above what you might expect with people driving in
from places like San Diego and Santa Barbara. In the beginning, the SCCC
meetings moved around the member's homes and I hosted one of those in the
early '70s.
It is now possible, with the lack of a meeting attendance rule, to make some
other changes besides location. Perhaps 6 meetings per year spread out over 12
months might work (every other month, for example) and I would be interested in
an all PVRC chapters meeting up in Virginia somewhere over a weekend. That is
how the West Coast DX convention in (Visalia/Fresno) California came to be - it
started out as a meeting of members of the Northern and Southern California DX
club. Everyone always looked forward to the Sunday breakfast to see how Frank,
W6AOA, the perennial MC, was surviving his hangover... Frank was usually a good
sport and it was quite a show.
For what it's worth Ryan's is satisfactory and works for me.
