Fellow comrades in PVRC-NC...

I received this request from a local ham I am trying to persuade to get
bitten by the contest bug. He is trying to decide on an HF rig and I don't
have any experiences with any of his choices. These are not commonly what
most hard core contesters consider contest radios, but they are what he is
choosing from and can afford at the present time.

Any opinions would be appreciated. It's not often that you are freely asked
for your opinion! Have fun!

Please respond directly to me to save reflector bandwidth.

Thanks and have a good holiday season...

Subject: Yaesu FT 920

Do you recon the PVRC folks would be able to add any opinions on the Yaesu
FT-920?

I'd be curious to get more feed back from other hams. I was hoping you
could
post a general question to the PVRC group, and forward the responses to
me.

Maybe phrase it as a choice between:
FT-920
Jupiter
TS-570SG
FT-897
with the idea that I wanna limit the initial expense to $1000, +/-$200.

I'd be interested to see if anyone recommends the FT-100 or IC-706
instead.....

I keep waffling on which features I really want. I like the idea of the
ft-920 (on paper, anyway), but I'm concerned about the "bad vibes" folks
seem
to have on it.

If the Jupiter had 6 meters, I think I'd get that.

I re-read the Kenwood review, and I don't like the way they describe some of
the controls(the multi-function knob in particular).
