I put out a request on the NC reflector a while back to borrow an audio
frequency generator to test a filter.  Subsequently found this which is a
pretty neat free download accessory to put on your computer to use your
sound card as an AF generator.  Various waveforms and fully adjustable.

It doesn't do well when you just press the download button. Better to right
click and then "Save Target As..." into a directory and then run the .exe
file.
