Several queries on how it was delivering Joyce to Durham VA Hosp for her
shift, answer 'em all at once.

She's there, and packed for an overnight stay if needed. May be really nasty
at midnight. As to travel:

Clearing snow on hill at end of my driveway was hard work. 6 inches of WET
snow. Melting underneath. Ground is still quite warm.

US 64 had a slushy lane down to blacktop most of way to NC 55. Sudden 100
foot sections of slippery hardpack here and there.

NC 55 North had had some attention in Wake county, lane down to wet/slushy
many places.

Turned to 100% hardpack in Durham county. Hill down to stoplight at road
over to NC147 treacherous.

NC147 mostly hardpack with occasional slushy lanes. Two lanes open each way,
could pass slower cars. Northbound uphill banked curve north of Ellis was
treacherous with a lot of cars stalled in snow off the roadway. 55 mph
section in city looked like at least one lane had been plowed northbound,
and two southbound. Local streets a mess but generally passable.

Snow started up again hard coming back, almost to whiteout a couple of
places. Could not see surface of the driveway where I shoveled it earlier.
64 had had all four lanes plowed while I was gone, but was going white
again.

Think the oft heard admonition today holds, if you HAVE to drive, you will
get there if you're careful. But otherwise, there is a full complement of
loonies driving around out there, saw a good half dozen myself. Park the car
in the garage, hide the keys and go play with the radios.

73, Guy.
