Comments: Started the contest without commercial power due
to a severe ice storm. Station consisted of an IC-706MkIIG
and laptop on battery power, and a kerosene lamp atop my
(useless) FT-1000MP to shed some light on the keyboard. The
tmeperature inside the house was 40 degrees! I managed to
operate about 1 hour 15 minutes before the laptop shut down
because of the battery. Unable to operate, I went over to a
neighbor's house to warm up (they had a gas log to heat with,
we didn't!). A half hour later, power was restored. After I
returned home, I changed the configuration over to the MP
and an amplifier; that made operating much better. Besides,
I didn't have to put my hands over the kerosene lamp's
chimney to warm them up!!! KO7X wasn't as fortunate; his
house remained without power, so we had him and his XYL over.
He was pressed into service and contributed to my score.
Had to quit early due to a severe chest cold, plus Alan
was exhausted after having had little sleep the previous
night due to his being the "fireman" (tending the fireplace)
at their home. Hey, it was a fun contest - a delight to
work old friends and make new ones.
