Depends on the scanner and on what the switch says, not all 2004/5/6 had an off
on switch, most had a dimmer switch, so if yours has a dimmer switch then all
you where doing is dimming it. Shine a light in it, if the numbers look good
then I would say the display is fine. I have never seen an LCD display dim. I
still have my 2004 from the first year they were made I think it was when I got
it and it has never been turned off and the LCD it self is fine, it sits way
back in on a shelf on my desk and it is all I can do to see it unless I shine
the light in there and the LCD itself looks like the day I bought it.
