Hi Edgar.

Most probably you have a corroded or broken wire inside the connector 
for the battery.
 

Recheck and/or redo the connector for the battery.

There is a diode on rghw pcb in series between the battery and the load, 
so checking into the radio with a DVM will not show any load impedence. 
IF your DVM has a Diode test function you can verify the continuity into 
the load, but not the load size.
  If you have one of the older analog VOMs - that will show a difference 
in impedence for the different meter polarity..
