Yes, Harley, the german shepherd, got to it first and mangled 
a corner.  So I lovingly copied the damaged portions, then
trimmed the binding off the book, reconstituted the damaged
pages (some from local library), and rebound using one of
those plastic 'comb' binders.  But before I put together I made
a back up copy of each book by running them through the 
scanner.  Actually, the comb binding allows the books to be
laid flat when reading.  The PDF was scanned at high enough
res so that keyword text was captured allowing me to Ctrl-F
(find) text now.  Pretty spiffy.
