Hi Bill. Sure, in Bill Cheek's book he also says that the 2004 can be  
changed to a 2006 using the same changes. However, he states that it isn't
easy or for the faint at heart since you have to remove the soldered in
CPU and install the 2006 CPU, crystal, squelch changes, the potential for
a ruined radio exists. That was in his 1995 book, the parts may not be
available now, he says the main benefit is increased scan speed, doesn't
sound like it's worth the effort or cost. Bill liked the 2004 better that
the 2005 due to the metal case, front panel layout/slope, mainly cosmetic
stuff. It sounds like the 2004, 2005, and 2006 are "basically" the same
machine with similar performance. Obviously there are differences but not
