There was a good discussion in this group about problems getting Trunker /
E-Trunker and Treport to run from under Windows on some computers. It
expanded to discuss the fact that if you have one serial port on your
computer (like I do on my notebook) and you use a USB / Serial adapter that
it (the adapter) will not work from DOS to run your tracking scanner.
Power management issues were discussed but did not seem to cure the problem
for everyone. These software programs do run much better from DOS as does
the popular Probe scanner control software.
I set out when I found some time to build a computer cable that would run
both my Pro-2006 with Opto 456 board and my slicer on one cable. This would
take care of these problems mentioned above and let Trunker / E-Trunker run
from DOS and still control the tracking scanner. This would avoid the issue
of having two computer cables, the usb adapter as well and let you run with
one cable.
I found some information on Bill's webpage (http://www.ulster.net/~petrow/)
about building just that kind of computer cable. I laid one out in a drawing
and built it. The cable worked fine but I also run Probe software most of
the time on that same scanner and it did not work with the built cable. I
wanted to only have the one cable so I laid out and made a drawing of a
cable that will work with both Trunker and with Probe using the same cable.
I put some pictures and the information on a webpage for those of you who
said you were having the same problem and trying to find a way to work
around it.
You can also get there from either the Probe Page (from the Scanner / SWL
menu) or from The Work Bench page on my main website.

Hope this help some. If you have any questions or need more information let
me know. I have built this cable and tested it with my notebook, it works
fine. This idea can be used with other slicers / scanner set-ups as well.
