Hi Leigh. It sure is international, I live 80km east of New York City. Any
outdoor antenna will make a BIG difference over the little telescoping
Radio Shack antenna. However, for an outside antenna use a quality coax
cable or the gain is lost in cheap coax, and especially at the higher
frequencies. The most likely all around antenna for the frequency coverage
of the 2006 is a discone, typically covers from 50 to 1200 mhz, they are
omni-directional so you receive from all directions simultaneously,
however, they have no real gain, so it's a trade off over a directional
gain antenna. Guess it depends on which direction your listening is from,
if all from one direction, use a beam antenna for the gain, if not the
discone works okay or use the TV antenna with a rotor. TV antennas also
make decent and directional gain scanner antennas, they are inexpensive,
check to see if they are 300 or 75 ohm output, if 75 ohm use coax all the
way to your scanner, if 300 ohm then use the appropriate 300 to 75 ohm
matching balun and 75 ohm TV coaxial cable and they will work fine. The
2006 scanner is rated at 50 ohm antenna input but the 75 ohm cable works
great with about a 1:1.5 SWR, basically means nothing for receiving. Mount
them so the elements are vertical since most scanner stations are
vertically polarized. Wow, that's enough to keep you busy, let the list
know how you make out, best wishes, ken
