[Pro2006] Audio hiss radio squelched

Hi
  I remember someone a while back describing the audio hiss from the
2006
when the radio is squelched.

I was trying to connect a VOX equipped recorder, but it is always
recording because of the hiss.

Was there a way to reduce or eliminate the hiss?
