If I remember correctly, RA6778 had an interesting feature which was a "Signal Reconstruction" mode.

This was something I havent seen in any other receiver of that caliber.

It worked in RF stage ( if not IF stage ). Basically an oscillator phase locking on to the RF/IF signal, to add Carrier, which may have a weak or missing Carrier.

Much like the Synchronized AM detectors ( which is a std feature on some receivers ). But it was a feature that locked on the

main signal.

I have a few here I restored. A particular issue I had was with the IC sockets holding the EPROMs. The red ones must shrink with age I had to replace them all with new sockets. Also forget the rechargeable battery and use a 1F cap with a 100 ohm load resistor ,holds the memory over a year.
The alignment can be done with out the special jigs if you read the instructions and just set the unit accordingly. My copy’s of the EPROMs are on the RACAL groups dot io. The usual issue with tantalum caps is to be expected, I replaced a lot of them with electrolytic caps .
