I have a WJ-8711 and a variety of SDRs (and other premium radios). But I
end up using the receiver in my Icom IC-746Pro more than any of the others.

Others may experience these radios differently but, for my ears, the
Icom's 32 bit DSP noise reduction circuitry is superb. I am completely
deaf above 3 kHz with a minimum of 40dB loss everywhere below that. My
$6,000 Widex hearing aids can make up for much of the 40 dB loss, but
most of the wider IF bandwidths on both radios have no audible effect
for me.  And treble controls are also useless.

I recently acquired a Timewave DSP599zx.  I'm hoping that will enable me
to understand more stations on some of my other premium RXs and possibly
the SDRs.
