[Premium-Rx] Reflector Tech Problem

Hi

Just my two cents on this...

Should PREMIUM RECEIVERS continue? My vote is a resounding YES!!!

Traffic volume has slowed to a trickle for quite a while now; I personally thought that the reflector had
dropped offline a long time ago, but I was very gratified a few days ago when it suddenly came to life
again and sent me a note!

There's still a lot of us out here, still running stuff like Racal, Watkins Johnson, and other less esoteric
signal inhalers on a daily basis.

Yes, the technology has changed dramatically over the years; I no longer have a stable of Collins R-390s
in my shack. These days I'm beginning to delve more deeply into SDR technology. But I STILL have a
number of older Premium receivers, tho I'm getting more selective about them. Collins 51J-4 is high on
my list these days, and my Racal RA-1772s and the numerous spinoffs are still going strong. Not to mention
REALLY old Premiums, like a Hallicrafters S-28 Super Skyrider and a Hammarlund SP-600VLF. They're as
good as they ever were.

I'm not sure just how to bring the group back to life, but I DO know that there are still a lot of us out here.

Maybe this system glitch was what was needed to let people know that PREMIUM RECEIVERS still exists
and that it hasn't fallen away into the Cosmic Bit Bucket of the internet.

Hi Paul

> We could try to “fix the glitch” (like the two Bobs) and stay on the QTH system. I have been considering options, such as migrating to “Groups.IO” for a more up-to-date email reflector, but this comes at a cost of time & money. I don’t mind investing the time and money, but there is another option that should be weighed before such an investment is made.

Greg & Jan passed the reflector and the website on to me almost 18 years ago, and I have carried on since then.

Several times a month I receive an email from the family of a Silent Key with “the notification.” Receiver technology has certainly changed, and the market for the classic receivers has markedly declined. This begs the question of whether the Premium-RX reflector has reached that point in time where it has fulfilled its original purpose to the point where it should be discontinued.

I am all for keeping it up and alive. Been a member for ages, but only rarely posted. The list, however, is the only place I know where people with receivers can be reached (I myself own a R&S EK-070).

The list is low traffic, certainly not a source of much spam.

So count my vote for keeping and a big thanks to you for maintaining it for all these years.
