[Premium-Rx] The future

Good evening! After many years, I suddenly received the subscription
deleted e-mail yesterday. I was one of the very early people having owned
a number of my all time favourite mil-spec premium-rx, the Collins
HF-2050. Sadly, over the years I have totally gotten out of the Premium-rx
side of radio, and now am just about exclusively using a slew of SDR
receivers (no stones please!). I absolutely loved the Premium-rx at that
stage of my life, when I had the space, a dedicated radio room, and lots of
antennas. I'll always cherish my 19" racks, full of premium-rx, including
the Collins R390A, Racal RA17, 3 or 4 HF-2050s, a Harris RF590, etc.
When the SDR revolution came along, I quickly came to appreciate what
they could do...mainly being able to be used remotely, fairly easily, and
to record swaths of spectrum. I was bitten. Over the years, we downsized
our household to an urban city lot home, then to a condo on the 5th floor
overlooking our harbour. I'm not permitted to have outdoor antennas, and
the dedicated radio room is now gone, but I now DX from my cottage near
Masset, BC on Haida Gwaii (due south of Ketchikan, AK), remotely, using 2
Perseus SDRs, an Discovery HF+ SDR, and a RSPdx SDR. Honestly, I have
never looked back. The premium-rx group would serve as a source of
nostalgia only for me. Thanks for the memories! Walt Salmaniw, Victoria,
BC
PS: Jan Skirrow, a great friend over the years is alive and (hopefully)
well living about an hour north from me. I hope the same for Greg, another
wonderful guy.
