Thanks, Les. I had already disconnected and reseated all the cables, and that didn't fix it. But maybe I should check them to make sure there's continuity.

Many years ago I received my RX-340 (used) that exhibited the same problem. I removed the covers and found the cable from the encoder had come off. I plugged it in and that fixed it. I found the retainer but was loose that allowed the encoder to turn causing tension to cause the plug to pop off.

I'm wondering if anyone has any insight into the following problem: My RX340 has lost the ability to tune via the tuning knob, and there is nothing displayed where one would normally see and select the Step size ( 1 Hz, 10Hz, etc.).

Otherwise, it seems to be normal -- i.e., it receives, and the frequency and frequency display can be changed via the keyboard or by recalling a memory. They "aux parameters" and "memory scan" sections of the display look and work normally (except that when the receiver is first turned on, the memory scan area displays "pty" and that doesn't go away when I tune memories).

I would appreciate if anyone can share any insights.

Thanks.
