The 7030 is/was, in the view of many, one of the top receivers of all 
time.   I have
five of them -- all with firmware from 16B and above.   Some people said 
the Lowe
HF-250 exceeded the 7030 in performance -- I disagree, as the 7030 has 
all kinds of
wonderful tools, including auto-notch, PBT, and excellent stability.   
All five of my receivers
had their audio circuits modified by a specialist (Big Sky Audio) -- who 
may not be doing
that work anymore at this point.   Some points -- you need to pay 
attention to the internal
batteries, and replace if necessary.  You have to be careful how you 
remove the cabinet
screws -- the top and sides of a 7030 need to be removed in a certain 
order or you wisk
messing things up.  Some serial numbers have dimmer backlights on the 
LCD display --
receivers above serial number 102 and 103 are preferable.
