I have a 756 Pro 3 with a very easy modification. It works great, no overloading or problems. This mod doesn't address use of the pre-amp, but imho it's not needed. The attenuator works as it does on all bands.

I've compared mine with a hot rod 746 HQ-180 and other receivers, the filtering, nb etc. on the Pro3 makes it the winner.

Subject: [Premium-Rx] Icom 756Pro3 AM DX'ing
________________________________________________________________________________

I have just purchased an ICOM 756 Pro3 that I'd like to use for Broadcast band DX'ing.
I'd like to resensitize it for use below 1.6MHz (I do not plan on using it below 500kHz.
I've read the mods for the 746 and believe similar- but not identical ones would benefit the 756. These include bypassing the attenuator and enabling the Preamp 1. Could anyone provide documentation on the needed work and/or any comments on the performance of the Pro3 for my purpose- Thanks John
