At the risk of sounding like a 'heretic' ... hands down the best VLF receiver here is a computer sound card as the A/D and Spectrum Laboratory software. One audio channel accepts the incoming VLF spectrum and the other GPS 1 pps and NMEA data. The sound card sampling rate is GPS disciplined by the 1 pps and the 1 pps / NMEA string provides precise time accuracy. Only drawback, of course, is the upper frequency which is limited to 1/2 the sound card sampling rate.
