[Premium-Rx] Longwave Receiver Recommendations?

Al raises an interesting point.  A tuned loop is one of the best ways of
optimizing low frequency reception but there are two issues that I
haven't seen elegantly resolved:

1. Its easy to build a tuned loop to cover a couple of octaves but there
are an awful lot of octaves down there.

2. At very low frequencies the Q of a tuned loop is such that the
bandwidth is sometimes too narrow for the signal you are trying to resolve.

Does anyone know of any good solutions to the above issues? Links to any
papers/articles would be be appreciated.
