Hello Larry,
the Digikey Website has a link to the Honeywell datasheet.
I don‘t know the MTBF but I can say that the R-2368/URR I got two months ago came with a defective encoder. This Honeywell Encoder is the original part used by Harris in the R-2368/URR. It has 128 pulses per turn.
You can probably use almost any encoder, in fact to test my receiver I used a rotary encoder out of my Collins KWM-380 which I had on hand. It was too large for permanent installation and had about 180 pulses per turn.
Many cheap encoders only have 32 pulses per turn.
