Response:
I have a Tentec TX-340 and I could compare it with the WJ8711
The WJ8711 is the winner for sensibility and his lower background noise
I sell these two receivers today because I bought an IC-R9500 who’s the winner compared at these two receivers but but it is also much much more expensive
I love these prestige receivers but I can’t keep them all unfortunately because I have a wife if you know what I mean ;-))

Hello friends

Everyone has the right to feel that the price of a receiver is too high for his wallet but that is not the important thing
The important thing is that the price is the one that connoisseurs, collectors are ready to give

In the case of the WJ8711, there are many models: WJ8711, WJ8711-1, WJ8711A-1, WJ8711A-3 and in each model the eprom versions have also evolved
When you want to buy the most advanced and perfect copy, you have to accept to pay more than the opposite

Israeli sell you WJ-8711A-1 for 1700-1800 ? but they are in their juice, are not tested, have old ram-battery, are not sold with a box nor with a led backlight etc .. .
When you order them you will still have to pay in addition to the important customs duties because these sellers will declare them to you at the full price.

Personally, I sold not long ago, the same WJ8711A-3 at the price of 2900 ? to a French but it was a connoisseur and collector who had the means

Prestige receivers are not sold at the cost of scrap but for their history, condition, reputation

Best regards
Joseph

Eugene, are you listing your two receivers here for sale at US $600.00 each? If so, I?ll buy them both (as will half the people on the list). I?m not sure how you expect your question to be properly addressed as the only information you have given about your receivers is the very low price you paid. Of course, that might be your point. As you know, prices vary by different model number, condition, accessories, shipping, location (a majority of our members are outside North America) and other significant considerations.

Generally speaking, we ask that members in good standing post an asking price when listing a receiver (etc) for sale. In this case, the requirement was fulfilled. We actively encourage people to list their radios here as it benefits everyone in our premium receiver fraternity, and the sellers are free to set the asking and selling prices as they see fit.

Again, I?m not sure of the intent, but it would be easy to interpret this response as ?price policing? a for-sale offering on the list. Such a response can discourage people from posting radios-for-sale to the list, and this benefits no one. I have purchased some really rare radios from the original poster, who is an internationally renowned and respected collector. BTW, I have also purchased some really nice & rare MacKay radios from Eugene. I?m grateful you are both on the list. The bottom line, however, is this: current pricing is set only when a seller agrees on a price with a buyer and money changes hands.

As for the differences in the various iterations of the WJ-8711 series of radios, they are so numerous to be mind numbing! I?ll leave that for others to discuss...

Thank you & vy 73 de Paul W8ZO

Yes, *however*: Frequently, the many firmware differences between
versions of W-J (and other) sigint receivers have very little meaning
for SWLs, merely (for example) that they handle some obscure comms
protocol that the contracting customer needed in order to integrate the
rx into their system, or that the radios have a different roofing filter
designed for some particular duty, which is not as useful as an older
and supposedly "lesser" version for general SWL use.

I have owned several versions of the WJ8711-type receivers, and the one
that was most useful to me was the HF1000.

Best regards,

Charles

Agree with you, Charles. I have had the HF-1000A (.10 firmware) and the 8711A firmware side-by-side and the 1000 sounds warmer on broadcast. But for data modes, the 8711 is better.

The 1000 also has a plastic PTO shaft that need not be grounded like the 8711, which reduces digital noise.

Thanks,
Ed

I have a Tentec RX-340 and this radio *looks* a lot like that one. Are
they actually similar design or completely different?

Identical thought the case is painted on the 1000.

Thanks,
