It's my understanding that Cubic has done a lot of work on eliminating noise coming in on the power line specifically
for VLF reception.

I can't over emphasize how important bandwidth is when looking for weak signals. Noise = kTBR, so lowering Temperature,
Bandwidth and/or Resistance lowers noise. The next improvement comes from using a matched filter.

But that usually requires that the transmitted signal be in a special format.
