Hello Heinz,
regarding the battery: I had an empty one, the receiver would respond with a ram fail message, but it still worked, probably forget memories, not sure.
I replace it in 2011 with a DS1643-100+-ND from digikey, worked ok. Not sure of they are available still, maybe on ebay (with some risk that they are used ones).
youtube show some people repairing the Dallas chips, it looked a bit adventurous to me :), bit if all else fails...
Regarding ROM versions: what does the receiver say after BITE?
I can look up my versions per chip if you like, just send a private mail.

PS: I also would be willing to sell my HF-1000, upgraded to an R&S EB500. If anybidy is interested, I can send pictures, local pickup in Mannheim +- 100km preferred.
