[Premium-Rx] WJ HF-1000 questions

Hello,
last Saturday I found a Watkins-Johnson HF-1000 at a swapmeet in Bavaria/Germany. It is serial #176X and has the preselector installed.

I checked the ROM versions and found: 
Front panel ROM A1A1U3 is 1.21 which is standard for all.
Processor ROM A2U12 is 04.01.06 which is late but not the latest version.
DSP ROM A2U56 is 04.02.07 which is the latest version.

Would my HF-1000 benefit from the latest processor ROM? Would it even work in my receiver?

I am a bit worried about the DALLAS NV RAM chip which is no longer available. On the N9EWO website it is stated that the receiver will be (permanently?) dead when the battery inside the DALLAS NV RAM chip is exhausted.
Is this really true? What does owners use as a replacement?
