A 6 or 10 dB insertion loss would also concern me.
The sub-octave filters, including the RF overload protection Circuit
in the SRT CR30x and CR90/91 has a typical insertion loss of less than 1 dB.

The preselector option in the Telefunken E1800 and the SELEX SP2296 has an insertion loss of about 2 dB.

Hi Chuck and Ian,

I don't know the Racal specs either but would be definitely concerned though
if a suboctave filter had 6dB or even 10dB insertion loss.
E.g. the R&S R&S®FK-890H1 (passive) input filter unit for the EK890/896
which comprises a lowpass filter, a bandpass filter and eight suboctave filters
is specified with an insertion loss of < 1dB.
