Dear WJ-8718A enthusiasts (and others),
(I) Thanks to all who responded to my previous enquiry about the
7-segment displays, in particular Jay who, despite his many other
activities, provided effective assistance.
It seems I still need some help for the following miniprojects.
(a) First priority: establish remote control.
(b) Second priority: obtain an MFP front panel assembly.
Some background information.
The unit in question has an ordinary (non-MFP) front panel, but
inside it fully matches an MFP unit (Fig. 5-3 in the Instruction
Supplement for WJ-8718A/MFP).
In particular, instead of the basic WJ-8718A cards type A6A1
(791575-x Up/Dn Count) and A6A2 (791591 FP Interconnect) it has an
MFP-A3 (794308 IF Interface) and an MFP-A4 (794274-1 Synthesizer
Interface and Memory; in fact, the MPU card).
It also has a 488M-A3 (796075 IEEE 488 Interface) - although I
much prefer RS232 for simplicity.
Questions
Ad (a). Problem: the 488 interface is totally unresponsive.
Q1: Given that the front panel has no "remote" button, can remote
control be established from outside?
Q2: Might it be that the 794274-1 contains the wrong
firmware? Terry's Part Number Index suggests it should be 794275-3
for M488-2 (what's the 2 here?). On the other hand, a paper label on
U1 is marked 488/841142/V1.84. U2 and U17 are absent, and are marked
as N/U (for all versions) in the table next to the schematics.
Q3: If the answer to Q2 is affirmative, where could I find the proper
cards? Otherwise, how should I start debugging?
Q4: Although I intend writing my own SW, does anyone have software to
start (e.g., WJ RCS)?
Ad (b) Where can I find a WJ-2718A-MFP front panel
assembly? Belatedly I saw a recent offer on eBay.
(II) The TOCs in the WJ manuals seem rather lengthy and dispersed,
requiring considerable leafing-through. Therefore I invested a little
time in making a convenient 1-page synoptic table. If this might
help other people, I can upload an example (where?). I am also
prepared to make customized instances on request (free, of course).
