[Premium-Rx] R&S ESVP/ESH3?

I have and use both the ESH3 and the ESVP, and they are not intended as general purpose communications receivers.
In particular, their AGC behaviour is something which takes some time to get accustomed to.

Performance-wise, they are quite good, but everything is optimised for their role as calibrated selective level meters and EMI receivers.

Another aspect is that filter bandwidths and shape factors are not made for communications purposes.

With the proper peripheral equipment, they also can be used for band occupancy measurements and for signal quality and frequency accuracy measurements. Those interested in the Frequency Measuring Tests can do worse than with an ESH3 and a GPS/Rubidium frequency standard.

Hi friends,

Does anyone have any opinions on how R&S ESVP/ESH3 radios perform as general purpose receivers? I've always had an interest in them, but wasn't sure if they were more appropriate for EMI or some specific purpose.

Thanks
